 The
Metropolitan Park of Leon is an ecological zone located in the north of
the city, and has a great variety of flora and fauna. A big part
of the park is occupied by the "Palote reservoir” in which
different activities inside as outside the water can be done.
  The
Metropolitan Park is a Protected Natural Area of 337 hectareas, where
a great number of migratory birds like Canadian ducks and
pelicans as well as herons and gulls live among other 205 species of the zone.
The park has a forest area with pines of great size
perfect to take a walk, to relax in a hammock or to enjoy with the family
and friends a picnic or a roasted meat in the areas installed specifically for this activity, where
in addition you can find tables, seats and grills for your service. It also exists
another different area with grills and palapas with tables and seats, called the Beach Area, located in
the ribiera east of the reservoir where food, child´s games
and a pier for the boats and motorboats can be found.
  In the reservoir different aquatic sports and activities can be
practiced, like water ski, wakeboard, kayak, motorboats and wave runners. The
weekends and holidays there is a boat service to take a ride along
the reservoir and visit the ruins of a property of the XVIII century that
was flooded just in the middle of this reservoir, and only in very counted times when the level of the water comes down, the ruins show its walls so the visitors can see them.
 Around the reservoir there are two perimetrals tracks of 7km to practice sports
like cycling, athletism, jogging or simply to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful
landscape that offers this ecological reserve. The Park has bicycle and quadricycle rent service for all ages as well as
trains service that periodically have tours around the reservoir the weekends and holidays. Riding these little trains you can easily cross all the area of the
park without having to walk the 7km around the reservoir. Also you can try the little train of rails whose route cross the forest zone of the park, goes through a tunnel and
passes next to the Farm of the park.
  The children have a very important place in the Park, for them they
are dedicated several areas here, like the Child´s City that is a little city made as the city of Leon with its main little plaza, its cathedral, its
theater, a commercial area and also a gasoline station placed in front of the famous
Calzada Arc of Leon, so that the children can recharge the fuel for their
bicycles and tricycles. On the other side of the park is Aerofantasía, that is
an Infantile Airport with a real airplane where the children can
learn things related to the handling of the airplanes and make a
virtual trip. The Park has also The Farm a place where the children can interact with
different farm animals like lambs, rabbits, a cow the childrens can milk and small horses
among others, the small ones can help to feed them, to touch them and
to learn of them playing.
The
Park has 2 access with parking area, people monitoring in all the
park, medical service for emergencies and toilets in different locations.
